Puerto Varas - A Tourist Trapped

Yesterday I reached Puerto Vargas with pain in my knee: wind so strong, hills so steep, road so bad, horse flies in dozens around my head. Decided to stay here for a day to give the knee a rest - but only spend a lot of money for little benefit (a case for my glasses for 5000 pesos - I should have said "no thanks", but I didn´t...)
I escaped later to a lake called Lago Todo dos Santos which was really nice - I allowed myself to be driven by bus and boat and swam for 40 minutes with noone around me for 5 miles (this was actually a little adventure in it´s own right - people just asked me whether I would join them for the boat trip to their campsite, and I said "yes, why not" ... - did not regret that instance of accepting an offer.)

Other news: Climbed Vulcano Puyehue on the first of January - a nice success, sponsored by a food gift from Renate (you cant bring food over from Argentina, which meant I had virtually nothing to eat when I arrived in the Chilean wilderness of Puyehue National Park).

Tomorrow I should reach Puerto Montt - and then the journey will go on to Chiloe, the last place. Only hope it´s a place....
